Staff spotlight: Paul van Druten, Director – Origination

Can you tell us about yourself and your background?

I’ve spent more than 15 years working as a property finance specialist across Australia and New Zealand—primarily at major banks, where I managed and grew successful portfolios. This gave me a real drive for finding flexible funding solutions and being a valued partner for clients. Outside of work, my time is spent chasing after my toddler.

How did you come to be part of the Pallas Capital team?

I was introduced to Pallas Capital over three years ago when the business was looking to set up a new office in New Zealand. Through this, I was given the opportunity to be part of the foundation team. What drew me in then, and what continues to inspire me now, is Pallas Capital’s dedication and aspirations to build its presence in the New Zealand market.

What does a typical workday look like for you at Pallas Capital?

A large part of my day involves talking through funding options, working towards solutions with clients and referral partners, and continuing to build on existing and new relationships. From there, we package it up for internal stakeholders and getting facilities successfully in place.

What has been your highlight at Pallas Capital so far?

Being part of the journey that has seen our New Zealand team grow from two, into a team of 15. This also included a move to our Britomart Auckland office as well as opening a new office in Christchurch.

What are some of your proudest achievements or milestones during your time at Pallas Capital?

Being responsible for originating over $650m of lending across over 100 transactions for Pallas Capital in the past three years. I am also proud to have contributed to Pallas Capital’s strong reputation as a trusted brand in the New Zealand market.

Looking ahead, what are your professional goals and aspirations within Pallas Capital? How do you see yourself contributing to the company’s future success?

With the New Zealand property market now showing strong signs of renewed activity, Pallas Capital is very well placed to partner with clients wanting to take advantage of these conditions. Pallas Capital will back the individual and vision, rather than simply box ticking and have the resources available to be flexible in how we tailor either construction or investment lending facilities. I will always be available for these conversations with clients and referral partners, and I see that as my role in contributing to Pallas Capital’s success in New Zealand.
